“A Disabled Artist’s Journey through Art and Activism”

Wendy Elliott-Vandivier, an artist and long-time disability advocate, presents information on her experiences as an artist and disability activist.  As part of her presentation, she shows examples of her cartoons that focus on disability awareness and some of the microaggressions that disabled people experience as they try to live their ordinary, “un-inspirational” lives. She also talks about some of the ways that organizations can be welcoming and inclusive for people with disabilities, and conducts cartoon making workshops for people of all ages. To request a presentation or workshop, please contact Wendy at wendyev.artist@gmail.com

“Wendy has been a teaching artist for a number of our Jewish Learning Venture initiatives! Using her creativity, humor and experience as an advocate, Wendy can engage diverse audiences of children, teens and adults in examining ableism and our own relationship to disability. Wendy has also been a featured speaker and artist for synagogues and Jewish organizations across Philadelphia. A workshop with Wendy is illuminating--and also fun!”
